King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands were joined by the Princess of Orange (wearing Queen Juliana’s Aquamarine Earrings), Princess Alexia, and Princess Ariane for the annual Koningsdag (King’s Day) celebrations at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven on April 27th, participating in a special online and TV broadcast through the theme of Making Knowledge due to the ongoing Pandemic. Koningsdag, a Bank Holiday in the Netherlands, celebrates King Willem-Alexander’s Birthday, and members of the Royal Family attend celebrations in a different city each year. Continue reading

Prinsjesdag 2020

King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, accompanied by Queen Máxima, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien, gave the annual Prinsjesdag (Prince’s Day or Budget Day) Speech to the Dutch Parliament to outline the government’s agenda for the coming session on September 15th in the Hague, an annual ceremony held on the third Tuesday of every September which has been much altered due to the ongoing pandemic.

Dutch State Visit to Indonesia

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands are on a State Visit to the Republic of Indonesia at the invitation of President Joko Widodo from March 10th to the 12th, visiting the cities of Jakarta and Yogyakarta in Java and the islands of Kalimantan and Sumatra, to celebrate and build diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties, particularly in economy, nature conservation, culture and science. After a tragic boating accident at the Sebangau National Park on Kalimantan while preparing for the State Visit, the third day of the visit in Kalimantan was cancelled and the visit ended a day earlier. Dutch Borneo Parure

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands are embarking on their first State Visit to Indonesia, a former Dutch Colony next week, and to mark the visit, we are going to not only feature our usual look at previous State Visits, but also feature some Dutch Royal Jewels with Indonesian connections over the next few days, starting with the Dutch Borneo Parure.
