Originating from a British-German Princess who became a Romanov Grand Duchess before being sold in exile to her sister, this splendid Tiara became a wedding gift for the Greek Princess who became the Romanian Queen Mother, before being worn by another Romanian Queen in exile and finally ending up with the current Custodian of the Romanian Crown, who wears the Romanian Greek Key Tiara as symbol of the generations of powerful women who never let their dire circumstances hinder their ability to fulfil their duty! Royal Tiaras 2016

As part of our Year in review series, we take a look at the the Royal Tiaras of 2016. With the grand 70th Birthday celebrations of King Carl XVI Gustav to the guests at the Albanian Royal Wedding in October, this year has been filled with Royal Tiaras. Here we will look at the Tiaras from each country. This is by no means a comprehensive list, as we haven’t covered Japan or exiled royal families, but it includes events we have covered on this blog. Queen Marie’s Diamond Sautoir

After the death of Queen Anne of Romania recently, we decided to do a post on one of her most glittering jewels, which was worn only once. Queen Marie’s Diamond Sautoir is composed of square links connected by diamond chain like links was designed by Cartier in 1919. Originally, the piece featured a 478.68 carat sapphire as a pendent, which was later replaced by a diamond pendent. Continue reading
