Lord Andrew became the heir to the Dukedom after his older brother, the Marquess of Hartington, was killed in action in 1944, eventually becoming the 11th Duke of Devonshire in 1950. The Duke and Duchess transformed the family estates, particularly the magnificent family seat of Chatsworth House, and remained happily married until his death in 2004. The Dowager Duchess died in 2014.
