The Prince of Wales was the Guest of Honour at a Banquet hosted by Prince (later King) Gyanendra and Princess (now Queen) Komal of Nepal at the Kings Guest Palace in Katmandu on this day in 1980, at the start of his Official Visit to the Kingdom of Nepal. Prince Dhirendra, Princess Perksha, and Princess Helen of Nepal were also present at the Banquet. Other highlights of the visit included an audience with King Birendra, a visit in his capacity as Colonel-in-Chief of the 2nd King Edward VII’s Own Gurkha Rifles, and a three day trek in the foothills of the Himalayas. This was the Prince’s first visit to Nepal since attending the Coronation of King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya in 1975.
