Emperor Akihito’s Enthronement Garden Party, 1990

This afternoon, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will be joined by members of the Imperial Family, including Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko, for a Tea Party at the Akasaka Imperial Garden, so we are taking a look at Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko’s Garden Party for Foreign Royals, which included King Baudoin and Queen Fabiola of Belgium, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark, Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg, Crown Prince Harald and Crown Princess Sonja of Norway, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, and Crown Prince Felipe of Spain, the day after their Enthronement.

In the evening today, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will host a Dinner for the Foreign Royals and Heads of State after the Enthronement of Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Hotel New Otani in Tokyo. We are taking a look at, only a ‘glimpse’, of the Dinner hosted by then Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu after the Enthronement of Emperor Akihito in 1990, which was attended by a host of Foreign Royals, including Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, which followed a Garden Party at the Imperial Palace.
