Japanese State Dinner at the White House, 1975

American President Gerald Ford and First Lady Betty Ford host a State Dinner at the White House in honour of the State Visit of Emperor Hirohito and Empress Nagako (wearing the Meiji Scroll Tiara) of Japan on this day in 1975, which was the Emperor’s first visit to the United States following the End of the Second World War, cementing the relationship with the Japan-United States Friendship Act of 1975. Previously, then Crown Prince Akihito had visited the United States in 1953 and with Crown Princess Michiko in 1960.
