The Duchess of Kent (wearing her Girandole Earrings and Bow Brooch) is accompanied by Sir Roger Makins, British Ambassador to the United States and Mr and Mrs. Rudolph Bing as she attends the premiere of the Old Vic Theater Company of London presenting Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City on this day in 1954. The Duchess later had a ‘spirited’ conversation with ballet stars Moira Shearer and Robert Helpmann.
