Eugène Basset, born in 1860, was a Parisian jeweler active from the late 19th to the early 20th century. He established his workshop in Paris in 1893 and later partnered with Moreau to form Basset & Moreau, active from 1900 to 1911. The firm produced high-quality diamond and platinum jewels and is known to have supplied important Parisian houses, including Boucheron.

An Art Deco Brooch with colored stones and diamonds forming a rectangular openwork plaque decorated in the Chinese style with figures in traditional dress in a flowery landscape, enhanced with sapphires, emeralds, rubies, amethysts, yellow sapphires and calibrated cut tallow onyx, set with old cut and 8/8 diamonds, holding pendants set with diamonds and onyx of similar sizes.

This exceptional piece, now presented as a brooch, was originally part of an important necklace exhibited at the 1925 International Exhibition. The Leysen company presented a selection of jewelry made in Belgium, among which this necklace with its chinoiserie decoration stood out in particular.
