Cartier Tree of Life Tiara

Today marks the 30th Anniversary of the Death of Baroness Marie-Hélène de Rothschild, who passed away on this day in 1996! The French Socialite who became a doyenne of Parisian High-Society had a legendary jewellery collection, which was highlighted by the iconic Cartier Tree of Life Tiara!

The striking Diamond Kokoshnik Tiara is pave-set with diamonds and an onyx ‘Tree of Life’, topped with Pearls, which was created by Cartier in Paris in 1914.


The Cartier Tree of Life Tiara was worn as a necklace by Baroness Marie-Hélène de Rothschild when she joined Salvador Dali to attend the revue of ‘Grand Jeu’ in 1973.

The Tiara was also worn as a Necklace by Baroness Marie-Hélène with a large Art Deco Diamond Brooch at the Yves Saint Laurent Party for Andy Warhol in Paris in 1974.

A few years later, Baroness Marie-Hélène de Rothschild wore the Cartier Tree of Life Tiara for the Wedding Ball of Princess Caroline of Monaco at the Palais Princier de Monaco in 1978.

In 1984, the Cartier Tree of Life Tiara was featured on the cover of Hans Nadelhoffer’s Cartier: Jewelers Extraordinary, the definitive history of the House of Cartier.

While the Cartier Tree of Life Tiara was not including In the auction of the Baroness’ jewels after her passing, it is now a part of the Cartier Collection and is frequently displayed in exhibitions around the globe, including in the Cartier Exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum last year!
