The Queen received Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for a private audience at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, during which the Prime Minister offered the Queen the Maple Leaf flag that flew over Parliament Hill on Canada Day last week. The Queen wore her famous Maple Leaf Brooch, which we featured on Canada Day.

The Prime Minister said:

It was an honour to meet with Her Majesty The Queen, particularly as Canada celebrates the 150thanniversary of Confederation. Over the past 65 years, Her Majesty has stood with Canada in key moments of our history, and has always shown tremendous dedication to our country and its people.”

  1. It’s not logical, but for some reason my heart swells with pride at seeing Pierre Trudeau’s son in this position. My family emigrated to Canada in 1966 and felt that Trudeau senior represented the values we sought in emigrating. So these are two of my favorite persons on the world stage, together and very clearly enjoying one another’s company.

  2. My family emigrated to Montreal. My grandfather’s first job was for Expo ’67. I was born in ’68. We left by the end of elementary school. I live in San Francisco now.
