Hello everyone and welcome back to
0:07
another episode of Royal Water Podcast
0:08
where Sam and I are going to talk to you
0:10
about the royal jewels worn at Lebal
0:13
Debbuton in Paris which really have
0:17
given us some familiar jewels but also a
0:19
few special surprises.
0:22
Yeah, I don't know if I can get excited
0:23
about this. And it's not cuz they're not
0:25
beautiful jewels, but I have seen the
0:27
same ones now about what two or three
0:28
years on the trot.
0:30
Yeah, I think this is the third year
0:31
that we're seeing actually no 22 23.
0:34
This is the fourth year actually.
0:36
Oh, Yeah. Okay.
0:37
So, fourth year we're seeing these same
0:39
jewels taken out again for another spin.
0:42
So I mean um so for those who don't know
0:46
Lebal is a exclusive society event which
0:50
has been run by um a lady called Oil
0:56
Renoan and she basically has it to
0:59
celebrate honorable young women from
1:01
Europe, Asia, Africa and the US while
1:04
raising funds for charity. They
1:06
basically uh h work with a bunch of
1:09
brands and hotels and designers but the
1:12
jewelry for the past few years has been
1:15
loaned by Vmuse jewelry who have
1:17
acquired a bunch of um royal and noble
1:20
jewels at auction and other places. So
1:22
they do have a decent collection but the
1:24
debutants wear the same jewels over and
1:26
over again. So there's not much in the
1:28
surprise factor. What is interesting,
1:30
they usually tend to um link the
1:33
debutants, especially the ones of royal
1:35
heritage, with the jewel that may have
1:37
belonged to their family or some branch
1:39
of it. So, there's something uh
1:41
interesting there, but usually it's the
1:43
same jewels over and over again.
1:45
Yeah.
1:46
Yeah. And I think we can go on to the
1:47
next slide where we see a glimpse of all
1:50
the royal and noble debutants and all
1:53
the interesting um other ones as well.
1:57
So, she has
1:59
Yeah. No, it it's I mean overall I think
2:04
as far as the debutons go, this year is
2:07
an interesting lot. I think last year
2:09
was a bit me with regards to all the
2:12
royal and noble personages. This year we
2:14
have quite a few princesses like
2:16
Princess Ulia of Orleans Borbon and
2:19
Princess Isabella of Orlon. We have
2:21
Princess Eugenia of Henzaland. And then
2:25
we have Lady Arama Spencer Churchill. We
2:28
have the granddaughter of Princess Maria
2:30
Gabriella of Italy. We have a grand
2:34
great granddaughter of the late countest
2:36
of Paris. We have a couple of baronesses
2:39
and a few American high society figures
2:41
as well as as well as some uh fashion
2:44
royalty you can say. Uh I believe the
2:46
granddaughters of Wira Wang and Karolina
2:49
Herrera. So a mix of people from all
2:52
around. Yep. So, let's start off with
2:55
Princess Ulia of Orleans Borbon who's um
2:59
part of the Spanish branch of the
3:01
Orleans royal family and they've been in
3:04
Spain since one of them married uh one
3:07
of the sisters of the second last
3:09
Spanish kings of one of the king Alonso
3:11
the 12th I believe and then it passed um
3:15
they're still quite close to the main
3:17
branch especially King Juan Carlos who
3:19
is also um her godfather so they are
3:24
still pretty well connected. Her
3:25
cavalier was Albert Windsor who's the
3:28
grandson of the Duke of Kent. And I
3:31
think these two were uh popular fetted
3:34
as like the couple of the ball a lot.
3:36
And I mean um her jewels are I think one
3:40
of the most interesting in the Vuse
3:42
collection. The diamond tiara comes from
3:45
Arch Duchess Marie Anne of Austria and
3:48
it was part of the famous jewels of the
3:50
Borban Parma family sale at Sabes in
3:52
2018. And I think it is one of the most
3:54
striking pieces and we haven't really
3:56
seen this one worn before. So it's I
3:58
think it's quite nice to see it again.
4:00
And though I do am not a fan of the way
4:03
it was placed at all.
4:05
No, but it's good to see a bon wearing a
4:07
the big bon flirtes.
4:09
Yeah. No, I think overall it was the
4:12
symbolism is nice. I just think a nice
4:15
updo and I do hope maybe in some I a
4:19
couple of days later usually they do
4:20
release some better pictures and at some
4:23
point they do have updos and stuff. So
4:26
maybe there's some hope that she might
4:27
have worn it for a photo shoot or
4:29
something as well.
4:31
Yeah. So that was the first jewel. And
4:34
then the second one we move on to is
4:35
Princess Isabella of Orlion who is
4:39
really one of the veterans of this ball
4:41
cuz I believe two of her sisters have
4:43
had their um debutant there and I
4:47
believe they've both times been walked
4:48
down by their brother Prince Constantine
4:50
as well. She wore another jewel with a
4:53
Orlon heritage. This one comes from the
4:55
Orleans Penza family. So this branch
4:58
went to Portugal and then uh to Brazil.
5:01
So the Brazilian branch, this was owned
5:03
by them until the 60s. She passed it on
5:07
to her daughter who was the former crown
5:10
princess of Yugoslavia.
5:12
And then she um sold it at auction in
5:16
the 80s. It came up again for at
5:18
Christies in 2018 and now it's owned by
5:20
Vmuse. And this was worn by an Austrian
5:23
arch duchess 2 years ago and now it's
5:26
worn by Princess Isabella. And uh again
5:29
the placement of this tiara I think does
5:30
leave something to be desired. It's
5:32
quite a pretty piece but worn so far
5:33
back you can barely see it at all.
5:35
Yeah. No I agree with you on that one.
5:38
Yeah I know it's a beautiful piece
5:40
overall and again the earlon symbolism
5:42
they seem to be laying it quite on.
5:46
Yeah. And then we move on to
5:49
uh Gabrielle Jensen Debalcani who's the
5:52
granddaughter of Princess Maria
5:54
Gabriella of Seavoy who herself was the
5:57
daughter of the last king and queen of
5:58
Italy. She wore this striking Bellipac
6:01
sapphire and diamond tiara which isn't
6:04
officially part of the Vmuse collections
6:06
but it's been popping around on
6:08
Pinterest over the past couple years.
6:09
And we did notice that it has come up
6:11
for auction a few times over the past
6:13
two decades. though it is a familiar
6:16
tiara and it was this one's actually
6:19
worn quite nicely with that. She's
6:21
wearing uh the diamond earrings of the
6:23
Duchess of Parma which again came from
6:26
the bourbon Parma family sale from Sabes
6:28
and is also loaned by Vmuse. Uh both
6:31
quite interesting pieces and I think she
6:33
does wear them quite well. But the most
6:36
interesting piece I think we'll see in
6:37
the next slide which is um actually not
6:40
a V muse jewel and I think this is the
6:42
first time we're seeing this is that she
6:44
wore the one of the saf strands of the
6:48
massive sapphire necklace of Queen Marie
6:50
Jose of Italy which was divided up. One
6:54
was given to her son the prince of
6:57
Naples and the other one went to her
7:00
daughter Princess Maria Gabriella. And
7:02
this is that strand. And I think it's
7:04
wonderful to see royal heirlooms worn
7:06
again and especially an event like this
7:07
where we don't necessarily see um
7:09
personal jewels worn at all. So I love
7:12
this and I think this is probably the
7:14
highlight of all the jewels for me.
7:16
Yes, definitely. Um it was a nice
7:18
surprise and it's a beautiful sapphire
7:20
set. So it's lovely to see it being worn
7:22
at an occasion like this.
7:24
Oh definitely. Yes. So the the sapphires
7:27
in this are heirlooms of the house of
7:29
Seavoi and um but the design was I
7:31
believe created in the '60s by King
7:34
Alberto and he had it made by Pitachi
7:36
the Italian jeweler for Marie Jose at
7:39
the time and I think it is really rare
7:41
to see stones of this size especially
7:44
worn in a shape like that and created.
7:46
It does look very antique but the fact
7:48
it was created only in 60s is quite
7:50
surprising.
7:52
Yeah. And then we move on to the next uh
7:56
where we can see Lady Arman Spencer
7:58
Churchill and she's wearing a jewel
7:59
which is actually and has very little to
8:02
do with the UK but this is another
8:04
Orleans piece. This is the French
8:07
necklace which belonged to the duchess
8:08
of Aosta then it passed to the
8:10
marshiness of Chumley and then to uh it
8:13
was once worn by Clementine Churchill
8:15
the Nobel prizes but it is something
8:17
that is more associated with the u
8:20
French royal family and a couple of the
8:22
French princesses that have been at
8:24
least
8:27
piece though I'm not sure it it did look
8:31
good but it wasn't I think cohesive to
8:33
the look overall. No. And I wonder why
8:35
she didn't wear any of her family
8:37
jewels. I mean, they don't have much the
8:38
Malbras, but they do have um you know,
8:41
those small tiaras that are left over
8:43
and it's got to be a Riviera knocking
8:46
about.
8:46
Yeah, they have some good pearls. And
8:49
yeah, but I mean usually they do only
8:51
wear VU's jewelry. I think the last one
8:54
was really an exception rather than the
8:56
rule. But still I think overall uh given
9:00
the fact that she has been touted I
9:02
think as one of the more um prominent
9:04
debutants of this year the fact that she
9:07
didn't necessarily do that much to play
9:10
it up is a bit disappointing.
9:12
Yeah.
9:13
Yeah. And then I think lastly we'll go
9:16
to the last side and we have um actually
9:19
someone who's not royal at all. This is
9:21
Raiken Saxs whose father has something
9:23
in the American administration and she
9:27
wore two actually quite important royal
9:29
jewels. So the diamond tiara comes from
9:33
Archus Marie Ann of Austria again and
9:36
the diamond necklace comes from the Duke
9:38
of Berry. So two very kind of important
9:42
pieces of royal heritage which are both
9:44
auctioned in the Bourbon Parma sale
9:46
again. But this is I think overall this
9:49
is a very princess look. So I think um
9:52
probably the one of the better um pe
9:56
dressed debutons for me was Rean um
9:59
overall because of the way she basically
10:01
her entire look really went so well
10:04
together.
10:07
Just curious at how they pick out the
10:09
jewels for each debut.
10:11
Yeah. No, it is very curious how it does
10:14
work out.
10:16
I'd love to know that their process.
10:18
Yeah. Well, we've said it before. If
10:20
they'd like to get in contact with us,
10:21
we wouldn't mind.
10:24
Yeah. And I think we can go to the last
10:27
slide and then just discuss uh what did
10:31
you think I think uh Sam of the all the
10:35
debutants this year as compared to
10:36
previous years and the jewels that they
10:38
were. I mean, as I said at the beginning
10:40
of the episode, it's quite difficult to
10:42
get excited about jewels that you've
10:43
seen repeated three or four years in a
10:46
row. Um, I don't know why they're not uh
10:50
rotated. I'm sure Vmuse has an extensive
10:52
collection and if not contacts within
10:54
the jewelry world, but you know, I'm
10:57
it's nice to see um the family jewels of
11:01
um Maria Jose's sapphires. Maybe that
11:04
should be next year's incorporated into
11:06
it somehow. Some of the girls should
11:08
start coming in with some bits and bobs
11:10
from their own jewelry boxes. That would
11:12
be interesting. But yeah, overall I mean
11:16
the dresses are nice.
11:18
Yeah. No, I do agree with you. There's
11:21
very little to get excited about and we
11:23
do grasp onto the little things and I
11:25
think overall I'd like to see if the
11:28
incorporation family heirlooms is
11:30
something that does continue in the
11:31
future cuz that will give us something
11:33
to be happy about
11:34
to talk about. Yeah, definitely. So,
11:38
thank you again for listening and we
11:39
look forward to joining you again soon.
