Belgian State Visit to Denmark

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are on a 3-day State Visit to Denmark, from March 28th to 31st, where they are hosted by the Queen Margrethe of Denmark. On Day 1, the King and Queen were welcomed by the Danish Royal Family at the airport, attended the Official Welcome, met with officials, and went on a boat tour through Copenhagen Harbour. In the evening, Queen Margrethe hosted a State Banquet at Christiansborg Palace in honour of her guests.

Queen Margrethe was joined by Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim, and Princess Marie at the Vilhelm Lauritzens Terminal at Copenhagen Airport to welcome King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium at the start of the Belgian State Visit to Denmark. King Philippe and Queen Margrethe reviewed the Guard, and afterwards, the Royal group rode by carriage to Christian VII’s Palace, where they posed for official photos.

Later, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde met with Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen at his Office. They also met with the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Ms Pia Kjærsgaard, at Christiansborg Palace. King Philippe attended the signing of 8 MoUs between Danish and Belgian companies. The King and Queen also met Belgians residing in Denmark at the Marriott Hotel.

In the afternoon, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were joined by Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary for a boat tour around Copenhagen Harbour, where the focus was on renewable energy.

In the evening, Queen Margrethe hosted a State Banquet in honour of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde at Christiansborg Palace, attended by members of the Royal Family, the government, the bureau, and the Belgian delegation. Both the Queen and King gave speeches.

For the day events, Queen Margrethe repeated a mint green turquoise skirt suit with the Connaught Pearl Bar Brooch given to her by her great-aunt and godmother, Lady Patricia Ramsay. King Philippe wore a black suit with a patterned tie. Queen Mathilde wore light blue Natan dress and coat with a Fabienne Delvigne hat, pearl earrings, and a modern brooch. Crown Prince Frederik wore a dark suit with a dark tie. Crown Princess Mary wore a Claes Iversen coat with a light pink hat, floral earrings, and a floral brooch. Prince Joachim wore a dark suit with a pink tie. Princess Marie wore a floral dress and green coat with a fascinator and brooch given by Queen Margrethe for the birth of Princess Athena.

For the Banquet, Queen Margrethe wore a new teal gown with the Pearl Poire Tiara, Khedive of Egypt Parure and the sash of the Belgian Order of Leopold. King Philippe wore Uniform with the Sash of the Danish Order of the Elephant, and the stars of his other orders. Queen Mathilde wore a bespoke peach Armani gown with the Nine Provinces Tiara, diamond earrings, a new diamond brooch (sold at Auction in 2014), diamond bracelets, and the sash of the Danish Order of the Elephant. Crown Prince Frederik wore Uniform with the Sash of the Order of Leopold, and the stars of his other orders. Crown Princess Mary repeated her metallic Jesper Hovring gown with the Ruby Parure Tiara and the sash of the Order of Leopold. Prince Joachim wore Uniform with the Sash of Order of the Crown, and the stars of his other orders. Princess Marie wore a cream and gold gown with the Dagmar Floral Tiara, diamond earrings, diamond brooch, and the sash of the Order of Leopold II (Thanks to Arjan).

Since the Queen’s sister, Princess Benedikte, is still mourning the loss of her husband, Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, Princess Elisabeth of Denmark, Queen Margrethe’s cousin, attended the banquet in a blue gown with Princess Thyra’s Sapphire Tiara.
