While the focus of the State Visit is green transition, the pharmaceutical industry and shipping, the Danish and Spanish Royal Families have close family ties, as both Sovereigns are descendants of King Christian IX of Denmark and Queen Victoria. The last Spanish State Visit to Denmark was in 1980, while Queen Margrethe made a Return State Visit to Spain in 1983.

Heads of State Dinner at the Palacio de La Alhambra
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain hosted a Dinner for 50 Heads of State and Government at the Palacio de La Alhambra in Granada on October 5th, during the Summit of the European Political Community. Spain holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the fifth time during the second half of 2023, between July 1 and December 31.
