Happy Birthday to Queen Sonja of Norway, who turns 86 today! The artistic commoner who became the first Norwegian-born Queen of Norway, Queen Sonja’s jewellery collection includes a nice mix of heirloom jewels and modern acquisitions, among them is her versatile Modern Gold Tiara!
King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway are being hosted by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and the Danish Royal Family on an Official Visit to Denmark on June 15th and 16th. The visit marks the historical ties and the close neighbourly relationship between Denmark and Norway and between the two Royal Families, in addition to the King and Queen heading a Norwegian Business Delegation focusing on areas of Danish-Norwegian cooperation within, among other things, green solutions.
The Norwegian Royal Family celebrated Constitution Day, the National Day of Norway, on May 17th by greeting the annual Children’s Parade in Asker from Skaugum (residence of the Crown Princely family) and another from the balcony of the Royal Palace of Oslo. Princess Ingrid Alexandra is part of the graduating class this year, and was thus celebrating with her classmates and friends and not joining the Royal Family to greet the Children’s Parades.
The Norwegian Royal Family are hosting Italian President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter, Laura Mattarella, who are on a State Visit to Norway on May 11th and 12th, to celebrate and build diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties following the last Norwegian State Visit to Italy in 2016. King Harald V is in Hospital, so Crown Prince Regent Haakon is hosting the State Visit on the King’s behalf.
The Norwegian Royal Family attended the annual Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo on December 10th. While the other Noble Prizes are awarded by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, only the Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo. Continue reading
Happy Birthday to Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, who is celebrating her 51st Birthday today! The only daughter of King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, and the only Princess of the Blood of her generation, Princess Märtha Louise has accumulated quite a substantial jewellery collection, which we featured last year, so today, we are looking at a jewel she has worn on loan from her mother: Queen Sonja’s Aquamarine and Amethyst Suite! Foreign Royal Guests and Relatives joined the British Royal Family for the Committal Service for Queen Elizabeth II at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on September 19th, following the Funeral at Westminster Abbey and a Procession through London. The late Queen, who passed away at Balmoral Castle earlier this month, had been Lying-in-State first at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh and then at Westminster Hall in London for the past week.
