Heads of State Reception at Buckingham Palace

Ahead of the Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey tomorrow, the British Royal Family hosted a Reception for visiting Heads of State and Representatives at Buckingham Palace, which is stated to be one of the largest gatherings of Heads of State in History. The late Queen, who passed away at Balmoral Castle earlier this month, has been Lying-in-State first at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh and then at Westminster Hall in London for the past week, with the Funeral at Westminster Abbey tomorrow to be followed by a Procession to Marble Arch and a Committal Service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Today marks the 30th Anniversary of the Death of Princess Margaret of Denmark and Bourbon-Parma, who passed on this day in 1992. King Christian IX’s last surviving granddaughter, who was related to almost all European royals both by birth and marriage, and the mother of Queen Anne of Romania, the ‘Smiling Princess’ was generous and beloved but notoriously impoverished, so to mark the occasion, we are featuring her Pearl Earrings! Danish Emerald Parure

Today marks the 205th Anniversary of the Birth of Queen Louise of Denmark, who was born on this day in 1817! The Hesse Princess with strong Danish Ties, she married her second cousin and through political manoeuvring became the Danish King and Queen, she is kown as the ‘Mother-in-Law of Europe’ through the marriages of her children, who sat on the thrones of Denmark, Greece, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Queen Louise had a notoriously small Jewellery Collection, so today we are featuring one of the few Jewels she had in her possession: The Danish Crown Emerald Parure!
