Countess Alexandra’s Diamond Necklace 

Happy Birthday to the Countess of Frederiksborg, who turns 58 today! The former wife of Prince Joachim of Denmark, who remains close the the Danish Royal Family after their divorce, Countess Alexandra has retained the Alexandrine Drop Tiara, as well as other jewels she received during her marring, including this versatile Diamond Necklace!

A modern necklace of graduating diamonds, this piece was likely a wedding gift to Alexandra Manley when she married Prince Joachim of Denmark in 1995, and began to be worn soon after the wedding, with the Alexandrine Drop Tiara, and a large pearl pendant, which were paired with coordinating pearl earrings.

In 2002, Princess Alexandra wore the necklace with an aquamarine or topaz pendant, and matching earrings, for Queen Margrethe’s 60th Birthday Gala Performance.

The following day, Princess Alexandra wore the necklace with an amethyst pendant and earrings for Queen Margrethe’s 60th Birthday Banquet at Christiansborg Palace, a combination repeated a few years later for a series of portraits.

Princess Alexandra continued to wear the necklace through the years of her seperation, including for Crown Prince Frederik’s Wedding Gala in 2004, and the necklace also made a notable appearence for her wedding to Martin Jørgensen in 2007, when she was made the Countess of Frederiksborg. Lets hope we see this necklace worn again sometime soon!

  1. What an excellent necklace! The Countess was so lucky to have received it and she makes wonderful use of it. I also notice that she knows how to style the Alexandrine Drop tiara to the best advantage. I wish her joy on her birthday!
