Wedding of Prince Gustav of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Carina Axelsson

The Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, son of Princess Benedikte of Denmark and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, has married his partner, Carina Axelsson (wearing the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg Diamond Spike Tiara), in a Religious Ceremony in the Chapel at Schloss Berleburg on June 4th, following a Civil Ceremony. Prince Gustav is the nephew of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, and the couple had been unable to marry due to the stipulations of his grandfather’s will, but Carina had been accepted as a member of the family for decades.

Royal Guests and Relatives in attendance included Princess Benedikte (in Queen Sophia’s Star and Pearl Tiara and Queen Ingrid’s Diamond Stars), Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, Countess Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille (wearing the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille Tiara), Count Richard and Countess Alexandra von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark (in her Wedding Tiara), Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark (wearing Princess Dagmar’s Diamond Floral Tiara), the Prince and Princess of Waldeck and Pyrmont, Hereditary Prince and Hereditary Princess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (in the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha Turquoise Tiara), the Hereditary Prince and Hereditary Princess of Oettingen-Spielberg (in a Diamond Necklace Tiara), and the Hereditary Prince and Hereditary Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn (wearing the Diamond Flower Tiara) among a host of German Royalty and Nobility.

  1. Oh, my goodness! I was so enthused with the Platinum Jubilee events in the UK that this wonderful event went completely under my radar! And what a wonderful event it was! I am so chuffed that they were finally able to marry. In a way they remind me of Prince Bertil and Princess Lilian of Sweden. They, too, couldn’t marry for years. But, just like in the case of the Swedish couple, love is more powerful that anything. Here they are, finally officially united! I wish them all the best in the world. May they enjoy many, many years of wedded bliss!
