Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg Fringe Tiara

The Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, son of Princess Benedikte of Denmark and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, is finally marrying his partner of 20 years, Carina Axelsson, today, after decades of inheritance disputes. Carina wore the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg Diamond Spike Tiara for years, and today she’ll gain access to the spectacular Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg Fringe Tiara!

Princess Benedikte’s Tiaras

A spectacular Diamond Fringe Tiara created by Koch around 1905, for the Wedding of the 4th Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Princess Madeleine of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg, who was later pictured wearing the Tiara in a Portrait.

After Princess Madeleine’s death in 1976, the Fringe Tiara was inherited by her grandson, Prince Richard, and since then it has become the largest Tiara worn by Princess Benedikte, seen during the British State Visit to Denmark in 1979 and the Spanish State Visit to Denmark in 1980, the Dutch State Banquet at Fredensborg Palace in 1984, Queen Margrethe’s 50th Birthday in 1990 and her Silver Wedding Anniversary Celebrations in 1993.

Princess Benedikte has also worn the Fringe Tiara for Prince Joachim’s Pre-Wedding Ball in 1995, Queen Margrethe’s Silver Jubilee in 1997, Queen Margrethe’s 60th Birthday in 2000, the Norwegian Independence Centenary Gala in Copenhagen in 2005, Queen Margrethe’s 70th Birthday Gala Dinner in 2010, Queen Margrethe’s Ruby Jubilee Banquet in 2012, and Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th Birthday Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace in 2018.

Princess Benedikte wore the Fringe Tiara for the Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and the Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, as well as for the Wedding of her daughter, Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, to Count Jefferson von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth in 1998 and the Wedding of her other daughter, Princess Nathalie of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, in 2011, when it was worn as a necklace. Lets hope the Fringe Tiara makes another appearance today, either as a necklace or as a Tiara, on either Princess Benedikte or on the new Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg!
