The Queen was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Margaret, the Duke and Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood, the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort, the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, and Lady Mary Whitley as she attended the Olympic Horse Trials at Badminton on this day in 1952, on the Duke of Beaufort’s Badminton Estate, one of her first public appearences after a few months after her Accession to the Throne. The then Duke of Beaufort was married to Lady Mary Cambridge, a niece of Queen Mary, and the entire Royal Family stayed with them at the magnificent Badminton House during the Badminton Horse Trials.
