Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in the Bahamas

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have arrived in the Bahamas, the last stop of their Tour of the Caribbean, as part of Royal Tours around the Commonwealth to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! The Duke and Duchess have already visited Belize and Jamaica. The Queen is the Sovereign of Belize, Jamaica, and the Bahamas, with the Duke set to become King of those nations in the future.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau from Jamaica, where they were met by a Guard of Honour. Afterwards, the Duke and Duchess were received by the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Philip Davis, at his office in Nassau.

On their second day in The Bahamas, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Sybil Strachan Primary School before recognizing health care workers at the Garden of Remembrance. They then experience watched a Junkanoo Carnival ‘A Taste of the Bahamas’ in a grand cultural event on Parliament Square before attending the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Regatta in Montague Harbour.

In the evening, the Duke and Duchess attended a Reception hosted by the Governor General of the Bahamas, Sir Cornelius Alvin Smith, and Lady Smith at the Baha Mar Beach Resort, where the Duke gave a speech:

“We support with pride & respect your decisions about your future. Relationships evolve. Friendship endures.”

On the last day of their Tour, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge began their day at the Daystar Church in Abaco, before doing a wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial Gardens in recognition of the loss of lives in Hurricane Dorian. Later, the Duke and Duchess attended a Fish Fry in Dundas Town before visiting the Grand Bahama Children’s Home and touring Coral Vita. Afterwards, the Duke and Duchess departed the Bahamas to return to Britian.

The Duke has released a Statement to the media at the end of the Tour:

Foreign tours are an opportunity to reflect. You learn so much. What is on the minds of Prime Ministers. The hopes and ambitions of school children. The day-to-day challenges faced by families and communities.

I know that this tour has brought into even sharper focus questions about the past and the future. In Belize, Jamaica and The Bahamas, that future is for the people to decide upon. But we have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with communities in all three countries, understanding more about the issues that matter most to them.

Catherine and I are committed to service. For us that’s not telling people what to do. It is about serving and supporting them in whatever way they think best, by using the platform we are lucky to have.

It is why tours such as this reaffirm our desire to serve the people of the Commonwealth and to listen to communities around the world. Who the Commonwealth chooses to lead its family in the future isn’t what is on my mind. What matters to us is the potential the Commonwealth family has to create a better future for the people who form it, and our commitment to serve and support as best we can.

  1. Van Cleef and Arpels jewels on the DoC. I wonder why the royal family seems to prefer this particular jeweler for their modern pieces?
