Composed of Diamond Bars in an Art Deco design, the Bracelet was one of several diamond chokers in Queen Mary’s collection, created around the 1920s, when it was notably worn by Queen Mary in a portrait. It is unknown if the Choker was originally designed to be worn as a Bracelet or if it was modified later, but it is unlikely that it will be worn as a Choker in the near future.

After Queen Mary’s death in 1953, the Diamond Bar Choker was not publicly seen until 1975, when the Choker was worn as a bracelet by the Queen Mother in a series of portraits taken by Norman Parkinson to mark her 75th Birthday. After her death in 2002, the Bracelet was inherited by the Queen but remained unworn.

In 2015, the Queen loaned the Diamond Choker Bracelet to the Duchess of Cambridge, who first wore it with the Lotus Flower Tiara and the Queen’s Wedding Gift Bracelet at the Chinese State Banquet in 2015. The following year, the Bracelet was worn at the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices ‘A Taste of Norfolk’ Gala at Houghton Hall, as well as at the Gala Dinner hosted by the British Ambassador to France, during the Duke and Duchess’ visit to Paris in 2017.

The latest appearance of Queen Mary’s Diamond Choker Bracelet came in 2018, when the Duchess paired it with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara and the Collingwood Pearl Earrings for the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace. There is no doubt we will continue to see this Royal Heirloom for years to come!

This is a very lovely bracelet and the Duchess’ appearance in the Chinese State Dinner was perfection! I loved everything about it: her gown, the Lotus Flower Tiara, her chandelier earrings, and the 2 bracelets. Divine!
