Crown Princess Mary’s 50th Birthday Celebrations

The Danish Royal Court has just announced the series of celebrations to mark the 50th Birthday of Crown Princess Mary in February 2022, which will come just week after the lavish celebrations for Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee. The Crown Princess’ 50th birthday will be marked with a series of events in early February – including the opening of two new exhibitions on the Crown Princess’ life and work and a gala dinner at Rosenborg Castle.

The official program for the Crown Princess’ birthday includes:

  • On Thursday 27 January, the Mary Foundation invites partners and networks to a celebration of the round birthday and the Crown Princess’ efforts as chairman of the Mary Foundation. The celebration will focus on how the Mary Foundation and the participants together can in the future contribute to creating a society where everyone feels that they belong.
  • Crown Princess Mary will participate in the opening of the exhibition ‘Mary and the Crown Princesses’ at Koldinghus in Kolding on Monday January 31st. The exhibition draws a portrait of the Crown Princess and the Crown Princess’ predecessors in the history of the Glücksborg family and focuses on the task and opportunities that lie in being a Crown Princess.
  • At the National History Museum at Frederiksborg Castle, the Crown Princess will be present on Thursday 3 February at the opening of the exhibition ‘HRH Crown Princess Mary 1972 – 2022′, which tells about the Crown Princess’ personal history and significance for the Danish royal house and the Commonwealth through pictures, portraits, costumes and personal items. In connection with the exhibition opening, a new portrait of Her Royal Highness will be unveiled.
  • On Friday 4 February, guests will gather at Rosenborg Castle for a gala dinner on the occasion of the Crown Princess’ Birthday, hosted by Queen Margrethe which will includes the Royal Family and representatives of official Denmark. The Gala Dinner may be similar to the Dinners held for Prince Henrik’s Birthdays and Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th Birthday, with some Foreign Royals and a bunch of Tiaras expected.

Other events related to the 50th birthday will be announced later. A theme page has been created on the Royal House’s website with information about the events in connection with the Crown Princess’ round birthday. The page will be updated regularly, and information about any changes as well as press registration and accreditation for the events will be posted.

New portraits were released, which were taken by Hasse Nielsen in the Crown Prince Couple’s home Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg, at some point last year.

    1. I’m really looking forward to it! It should be a grand few weeks, with the Diplomatic/New Years Receptions, the celebrations in Denmark and possibly events in Norway for Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s 18th Birthday!

    2. Sadly the celebration in connection with the 18th birthday of Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway have been postponed due to the current Covid situation. A gala dinner at the Royal Palace had been planned for the same day of her birthday while another dinner was planned the day before. Hopefully it will all take place once the situation has improved.
