Duke and Duchess of York at Claridge’s Hotel, 1936

The Duke and Duchess of York (wearing the Cartier Halo Tiara for the first time) attend a Ball at Claridge’s Hotel in London on this day in 1936, in aid of the South London Hospital for Women and Children. The Ball, organised by the Duke’s cousin, Princess Maud, Lady Carnegie, was the first Gala Event held at the end of the mourning period of the death of King George V earlier that year, coming just a month before the Abdication of King Edward VIII and the accession of the Duke and Duchess of York as King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
