Swedish State Visit to The Netherlands, 1976

The Dutch Royal Family welcomed newlywed King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden on their State Visit to The Netherlands on this day in 1976 (exactly a year after the visit of his cousin, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark), the highlight of which was the State Banquet hosted by Queen Juliana (wearing the Mellerio Ruby Tiara and Parure with the Order of the Seraphim) and Prince Bernhard (in the Order of the Seraphim) in honour of the King (in the Order of the Netherlands Lion) and Queen Silvia (wearing the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Parure and the Order of the Netherlands Lion) at the ROyal Palace of Amsterdam. Crown Princess Beatrix (wearing Queen Emma’s Diamond Tiara and the Order of the Seraphim) and Prince Claus (in the Order of the Polar Star), Princess Margriet (wearing the Dutch Laurel Wreath Tiara and the Order of the Polar Star) and Pieter van Vollenhoven,  were also present.

There was also a Paul van Vliet performance at the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam ahead of a Return Banquet hosted by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia (wearing Queen Sofia’s 9-Prong Tiara and the Bernadotte Emerald Parure) in honour of Queen Juliana (in the Dutch Emerald Tiara) and Prince Bernhard at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
