Luxembourg State Banquet at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, 1991

King Carl XVI Gustaf (in the Order of the Seraphim and the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau) and Queen Silvia of Sweden (wearing the Braganza Tiara, the Bernadotte Emerald Parure and the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau) hosted a spectacular State Banquet in honour of Grand Duke Jean (in the Order of the Seraphim) and Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg (wearing the Belgian Scroll Tiara, the Congo Diamond Necklace and the Order of the Seraphim) at the Royal Palace of Stockholm on this day in 1991, during the Luxembourg State Visit to Sweden. Prince Bertil (in the Order of Adolphe of Nassau) and Princess Lilian (wearing the Baden Fringe Tiara, Queen Josefina’s Diamond Stomacher Necklace and the Order of Adolphe of Nassau) were also in attendance. Grand Duchess Joséphine Charlotte was related to King Carl XVI Gustaf through her mother, Queen Astrid of Belgium, who was born a Princess of Sweden.

  1. All the ladies looked great! Queen Silvia pulled all the stops by wearing the mighty Braganza tiara as well as the Bernadotte Emerald necklace and brooch. I think she may also be wearing the Vasa diamond earrings! The Grand Duchess brought some of her best diamonds too, even though she didn’t bring her own mighty Empire tiara. Wouldn’t that have been one mighty duel, the Braganza vs the Empire? However, the Belgian tiara can hold its own very well. I must add that both gowns look fine even though it was 1991 which is remarkable all in itself!
