Princess Märtha Louise’s Tanzanite Suite

Princess Märtha Louise of Norway is set to celebrate her 50th Birthday this week! The only daughter of King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, and the only Princess of the Blood of her generation, Princess Märtha Louise has accumulated quite a substantial jewellery collection, which we are featuring in the days leading up to her Birthday, continuing with her Tanzanite Suite!

Now consisting of a tanzanite and diamond necklace with a pair of earrings and a ring, the tanzanite pendant of the necklace was originally worn by Queen Sonja at a Dinner during a State Visit to Vietnam in 2004, and despite being set in the necklace, it can still be removed and used individually.

By 2013, the tanzanite pendant had been set into a modern diamond necklace, with two additional, heart-shaped tanzanites, and the entire suite, paired with Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara, was worn by Princess Märtha Louise for the Wedding of Princess Madeline of Sweden.

A few years later, Princess Märtha Louise wore the necklace and ring of the tanzanite suite with King Olav’s Gift Tiara at King Harald and Queen Sonja’s 80th Birthday Banquet, which was her last Banquet to date! However, there is no doubt we will continue to see this striking suite for years to come!
