The Wedding of Prince Ernst August of Hannover, son of the Prince of Hannover and Princess Ortrud of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, and Chantal Hochuli at Schloss Marienburg on this day in 1981, following a Civil Service in Pattensen. The couple had two children; Prince Ernst August and Prince Christian, before he succeeded his father as the head of the House of Hanover in 1987. They divorced in 1997, and Prince Ernst August later married Princess Caroline of Monaco while the former Princess was in a relationship with Prince Alessandro Ruffo di Calabria.

Royal Guests and Relatives in attendance included King Constantine II (first cousin), Queen Anne-Marie, and Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece, Queen Sofia of Spain (first cousin) with the Prince of Asturias, Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina, the Prince of Prussia (first cousin, once removed) and Princess Donata of Prussia, as well as Prince George William of Hanover (uncle) and Princess Sophie of Greece and Hanover (aunt) among a host of members of the German Nobility.

The previous month, the Prince of Hannover had remarried to Countess Monika of Solms-Laubach at Schloss Laubach, over a year after the death of his first wife, Princess Ortrud of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg.
