The Queen was joined by the Prince of Wales, Princess Anne with Peter and Zara Phillips and Prince Edward as they Board the Royal Yacht ‘Britannia’ in Scrabster for their annual Holiday Cruise around the Western Isles of Scotland on this day in 1986, following a visit to the Queen Mother at the Castle of Mey.

The Princess of Wales, with Prince William and Prince Harry, did not join the Royal Party on the cruise, but instead arrived at Aberdeen Airport a few days later, going straight to Balmoral from a Holiday with the Spanish Royal Family at the Marivent Palace in Palma de Mallorca.

The newlywed Duke and Duchess of York also joined the Royal Party during the cruise, following a portion of their Honeymoon in the Azores Islands, and when the entire Royal Family went to Balmoral, they took the Royal Yacht for a five-week honeymoon in the Atlantic.
