Happy Birthday to Queen Sirikit of Thailand, who turns 89 today! The glamorous Princess who became the popular Thai Queen Consort for almost 70 years and is now the much respected Queen Mother, Queen Sirikit possesses an incredible jewellery collection, much of which we have already featured, so today, we are a look at her spectacular Diamond Earrings!
Featuring three pear-shaped pendant diamonds, in an elaborate modern frame similar to an antique girandole style. The provenance of the earrings is unknown but they were likely made by Van Cleef & Arpels before 1960, probably from antique family diamonds, around the same time the King and Queen commissioned her Thai Tiara in preparation for their landmark Tour of Europe and North America for much of 1960.

During the Tour of Europe, Queen Sirikit posed for a series of striking portraits wearing her iconic Balmain gowns and also wore the earrings for many portraits and events upon their return to Thailand in 1961.

In 1963, Queen Sirikit wore the diamond earrings for a State Visit to Japan, and also for a portrait around 1964, when she wore her new Diamond Necklace Tiara. Either the earrings were broken down by the late 1960s or were put away as they were no longer in style, so lets hope they make a reappearance soon!
