Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh were joined by Prince Charles and Princess Anne as they posed for the Press in the Gardens of the newly refurbished Clarence House on this day in 1951, just a few days after the Duke gave up his Naval Career and the couple became full-time working Royals in the midst of the deteriorating health of King George VI. A few days later the Family joined the King and Queen at Balmoral before beginning the next phase of their Royal Life.

1951 was a busy year for the young family, beginning in Malta, with a visit to Italy and the Vatican, and then the Opening of the Festival of Britain, the Danish State Visit, and the Norwegian State Visit, which Princess Elizabeth hosted on behalf of her terminally-ill father. Later that year, the couple would go on an extensive Tour of North America and embarked on another Tour in early 1952, when she suddenly succeeded to the Throne.
