Miller Fringe Tiara

Happy Birthday to Princess Maria Olympia of Greece and Denmark, who turns 25 today! The eldest grandchild of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie and a goddaughter of the Prince of Wales, who studied photography at Parsons and has modelled for Dolce & Gabbana, Princess Maria Olympia is the only Greek Princess of her generation, and owns this spectacular Tiara, which is not a Royal Heirloom but a piece that comes from her wealthy maternal family!

Inspired by the Kokoshniks at the Russian Royal Court, notable examples of Fringe Tiaras are found in the BritishSwedishDanishThaiMonacoLiechtensteinLesotho and Selangor Royal Collections, and while the provenance of this piece is unknown, it was likely created in the late 19th century. The Fringe Tiara was bought at Auction by Chantal Miller, the mother of Crown Princess Marie-Chantal, as a Christening Gift for Princess Maria Olympia in December 1996. While she was growing up, the Tiara was worn by her mother, Crown Princess Marie Chantal, who first wore the Tiara for the Gala Performance and Banquet to celebrate Queen Margrethe’s Silver Jubilee just the following month.

While we missed an appearance at Queen Margrethe’s cancelled 80th Birthday celebrations, there is no doubt we will continue to see this tiara for years to come!
