The Wedding of Ian Gilmour, son of Sir John and Lady Gilmour, and Lady Caroline Montagu-Douglas-Scott, daughter of the 8th Duke of Buccleuch and Mary Lascelles, at Westminster Abbey on this day in 1951, followed by a Reception at Syon House, the London seat of her brother-in-law and sister, the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. The couple had four sons and one daughter, with him inheriting the Baronetcy in 1977, and being made a Life Peer as Baron Gilmour of Craigmillar in 1992, after serving as Secretary of State for Defence and Lord Privy Seal. Lady Caroline died in 2004, and Lord Gilmour passed away in 2007.

In addition to many members of the British Aristocracy, Royal Guests included Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Elizabeth (who attended a Gala Performance at Covent Garden the evening before), the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester (an aunt of the bride), and Prince William of Gloucester (cousin of the bride and a page-boy).
