Dutch State Visit to Germany | Day 2

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands are on a State Visit to the Federal Republic of Germany at the invitation of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, from July 5th to the 7th, which was originally scheduled for June 2020. The State Visit is a confirmation of the good relations between the two countries, politically, economically, scientifically and culturally. As a neighbouring country, Germany is the Netherlands’ most important trading partner, an ally in the European Union, the United Nations and NATO. The State Visit, with a particular focus on the city of Berlin, concludes a series of regional visits that the King and Queen have made to Germany since 2013

Day 1 | Previous Dutch State Visits to Germany

On the morning of their Second Day in Germany, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visit the Bundestag, the German Parliament, in the Reichstag building. After a meeting with the Bundestag President Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble, they were given a tour of the building, before  meeting with representatives of the Benelux Parliamentary Group. Afterwards, the King and Queen visited Gropius Bau, a museum of modern art in Berlin, where they were introduced to the theme of new materials and sustainable circular design and examined various projects using new materials.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima then visited the Federal Council, the representative body of the sixteen German federal states in the German political system, where King Willem-Alexander gave a speech to the Prime Ministers of the German federal states. The King and Queen then had a meeting with Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany since 2005. Later, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visited a symposium on hydrogen, where State Secretary Keijzer and German Minister Altmaier will give speeches about the German-Dutch economic relationship, cooperation in the field of hydrogen and about the innovation and technology pact that both countries have signed. After watching a virtual reality film, various conversations were held about collaboration, sustainability and innovation.

In the evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima (wearing a repeated Valentino Gown with the Dutch Aquamarine Parure and Ears of Wheat Brooch in her Hair) hosted a Return Concert by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender at the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt .
