The Queen (wearing the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara and Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee Necklace) attended the Grenadier Guards Tercentenary Dance at No 23 Knightsbridge on this day in 1956, celebrating the Tercentenary of the Grenadier Guards, of which the Queen is the Colonel-in-Chief. Founded in 1656, the Grenadier Guards is the premier infantry regiment of the British Army.

Other events to mark the Tercentenary included an Inspection of the Regiment in the grounds of Windsor, as well as the Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara and the Cambridge Emerald Parure) attending the annual dinner of the First Guards Club at the Dorchester Hotel in London. Membership of the club is restricted to Grenadier Guards officers of at least three years’ service.
