Royals at EURO 2020

This month, Royals from around Europe have been actively following the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as 2020 UEFA European Championship, UEFA Euro 2020, or Euro 2020, the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Europe organised by the Union of European Football Associations.

On July 11th, the Duke of Cambridge was joined by the Duchess and Prince George as they watched the EURO 2020 Final Match between England and Italy at Wembley Stadium in London. Earlier, the Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, watched the Men’s Singles Final at Wimbledon and presented the trophies.

On June 4th, King Felipe VI of Spain joined the President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Spanish Prime Minister and the Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa to watch a friendly football match between Spain and Portugal at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Madrid in preperation for the UEFA European Championships.

In Denmark Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary have been heavily involved. The Crown Prince opened the Football Village and the Crown Princess visited a street party as part of the Mary Foundation’s initiative “Fantastic Football Parties” on June 11th, both participating in matches. The following day, they were at the match between Denmark and Finland when Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed, and sent out a message of support, as did the Duke of Cambridge, both being thanked in the official statement.

On June 13th, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended UEFA Euro 2020 Championship Group C match between Netherlands and Ukraine at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.

On June 17th, King Philippe of the Belgians joined Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Christian, Prince Felix and Prince Nikolai of Denmark to attend the football match between Denmark and Belgium at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.

King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands visited the Marktweg district in the Hagueahead of the UEFA EURO 2020 Group C football match between the Netherlands and Austria taking place at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam.

Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Prince Christian saw the the Denmark and Russia match on June 21st, at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.

The Duke of Cambridge saw the UEFA Euro 2020 Championship Group D match between Czech Republic and England at Wembley Stadium on June 22nd.

On the 29th of June, the Duke of Cambridge was joined by the Duchess and Prince George as they watched the UEFA EURO 2020 round of 16 football match between England and Germany at Wembley Stadium in London

On July 7th, Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary and Prince Christian of Denmark joined the Duke of Cambridge at the EURO 2020 Semi-Final Match between England and Denmark at Wembley Stadium. Prince William previously met the Crown Prince and Crown Princess at the Christening of Prince Constantine Alexios of Greece in 1999, a trip to Copenhagen in 2011, Royal Ascot in 2016, and the Prince of Wales’ 70th Birthday in 2018.
