Royal Ascot 2021 | Day 1

It’s that time of year again! The British Royal Family attended the first day of races at the Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire on June 15th, for the first time since 2019. Royal Ascot is a permanent fixture on the British Royal Family’s June calendar. The Queen has attended all five days of the horse-racing event since 1953, but was not present for the second time ever (after last year) today.

In the absence of the Queen (who had an Audience with her Australian Prime Minister at Windsor Castle), the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall were joined by the Princess Royal, Earl and Countess of Wessex, and Zara and Mike Tindall. Due to the ongoing Pandemic, there was no procession from Windsor Castle to the Ascot Racecourse in horse-drawn landaus, and the members of the Royal Family and their guests spent the day in the Royal Enclosure.
