Queen Máxima’s Tutti Frutti Necklace

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is celebrating her 50th Birthday next week, so in our typical fashion, we are featuring her Top 5 Jewels in the days leading up to her Birthday! While Queen Máxima has worn much of the massive jewellery collection of the House of Orange, we are focusing on many of the splendid modern jewels that Queen Máxima has acquired during the past 20 years as a member of the Dutch Royal Family, continuing with Queen Máxima’s Tutti Frutti Necklace!

Consisting of a graduated line of carved emeralds, ruby and sapphire flowers and leaves suspended from a meandering diamond-set seam to the carved flower and diamond clasp, the necklace and accompanying bracelet were auctioned at Christie’s Amsterdam in 2007, for EUR 26,400 and for EUR 24,000 respectively, where they were bought by then Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands. Since they are not made by Cartier they cannot be technically classified as ‘Tutti Fruit’, but the style is exactly the same.

The then Crown Princess Máxima first wore the suite for Crown Prince Willem-Alexander’s 40th Birthday Gala Dinner in The Hague in 2007, and later at a Gala Dinner during a State Visit to Oman in 2009. In 2016, Queen Máxima wore the Tutti Frutti Suite for a Gala Concert at the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ hosted by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium on Day 2 of the Belgian State Visit to the Netherlands.

More recently, Queen Máxima wore the Tutti Frutti Necklace and Bracelet with splendid Emerald Earrings from her personal collection (like acquired to coordinate with this necklace but also worn with many other jewels) for a Gala Concert for the Grand Ducal Family at the De Philharmoni in Luxembourg, on Day 2 of the Dutch State Visit to Luxembourg.

While the necklace has been worn only a few times, Queen Máxima has worn the Bracelet a lot more, notably during the Dutch State Visit to Singapore in 2013 and more recently for the Diplomatic Corps Gala Dinner at the Royal Palace of Amsterdam 2019. There is no doubt we will continue to see this splendid suite for years to come!
