Queen Máxima’s Tanzanite Suite

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is celebrating her 50th Birthday next week, so in our typical fashion, we will be featuring her Top 5 Jewels in the days leading up to her Birthday! While Queen Máxima has worn much of the massive jewellery collection of the House of Orange, we will be featuring many of the splendid modern jewels that Queen Máxima has acquired during the past 20 years as a member of the Dutch Royal Family, starting with Queen Máxima’s Tanzanite and Moonstone Suite!

Featuring moonstones and tanzanites set in a modern diamond design, the necklace is accompanied by a pair of coordinating earrings. The suite was probably a gift from King Willem-Alexander to mark their accession to the Dutch Throne in 2013.

Queen Máxima was first pictured wearing her Tanzanite and Moonstone Suite at a Gala at the Circus Theatre in The Hague, which launched celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the Kingdom of The Netherlands.

In 2014, Queen Máxima wore the Tanzanite and Moonstone Suite for a Jubilee Concert of Koninklijke Sophia’s Vereeniging in Kaatsheuvel, and later that year at a Concert to celebrate the 75th birthday of Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven and the 25th anniversary of the Victim Support Fund at the Beatrix Theater in Utrecht.

More recent appearences of the Tanzanite and Moonstone Suite were with a Luisa Beccaria floral blue gown, first at a Beneficiary Gala Dinner at the Princess Máxima Center for Child Counseling at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 2017 and then at a Dinner for the members of the Raad van State (Council of State) at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague in 2019. There is no doubt we will continue to see this modern suite for years to come!

  1. Sometimes Queen Maxima’s personal jewels are a bit too extravagant for me, but this suite is absolutely lovely! I think it’s formal enough for a black tie dinner but casual enough for a movie premiere. The colors are divine!
