Scandinavian Crown Princely Zoom Call

Today the Scandinavian Crown Princely Couples had an online meeting over zoom, with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark joining in from Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg in Copenhagen, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden at Haga Palace in Sweden, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway at Skaugum in Norway.

In addition to updating each other on the families’ lives, the three Crown Princely Couples, who are all closely related to each other, also spoke about the work of their patronages and landmarks during this time, as well as the importance of continuing the work with the great challenges we face together. The couples ended the conversation by looking forward to being able to meet again across the national borders soon. ⁣

Every few years, the European Crown Princely Couples had a gathering to learn from each other’s projects and challenges but over the past few years, the only Crown Princely Couples that remain are in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Luxembourg. The most major gathering was at Het Oude Loo Castle in The Netherlands in 2013, while the abdications in The Netherlands, Belgium and Spain meant that a reduced group met at at Skaugum in Norway in 2015. The last meeting between the three Scandinavian Heirs before the pandemic was at the Enthronement of Emperor Naruhito of Japan in 2019. They all also participated in a video message for Queen Margrethe’s 80th Birthday last year.
