Happy Birthday to Carmen Martínez-Bordiú, Duchess of Franco, who turns 70 today! The first child of the 10th Marquis of Villaverde and the 1st Duchess of Franco, she was the eldest granddaughter of Fascist Dictator General Francisco Franco, she was born and grew up in the Palacio del Pardo. In 1972, she married Prince Alfonso, Duke of Anjou, son of Infante Jaime, Duke of Segovia and a grandson of King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain, who was made HRH and Duke of Cadiz by General Franco. The Duke and Duchess had two sons, including the Duke of Anjou, the Legitimist pretender to the French Throne, before divorcing in 1982. She remarried to Jean-Marie Rossi, with whom she had a daughter, and then to José Campos García in 2006. A society figure who has been a favourite of the tabloids for her entire life, she has made a variety of television appearences and was a contestant on “Mira quién baila!,” the Spanish version of “Strictly Come Dancing”. While her younger brother had inherited Marquis of Villaverde when their father died in 1998, the inheritance of Spanish Hereditary Noble Titles was changed by the time their mother died in 2014, and Carmen Martínez-Bordiú became the 2nd Duchess of Franco. We wish ‘The Most Excellent’ Duchess a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!
