The Coronation of King Prajadhipok of Thailand (wearing the Order of the Royal House of Chakri, Order of Chula Chom Klao, and Order of the Nine Gems) at the Grand Palace in Bangkok on this day in 1926. Ceremonies started with a Palanquin Procession to the Baisal Daksin Throne Hall in the Grand Palace in Bangkok, where King Prajadhipok was crowned on the Bahadrabith Throne beneath the Great White Umbrella of State which was followed by Audiences and the crowning of Queen Rambai Barni (wearing the Thai Diamond Fringe Tiara). Other events included Processions around Bangkok and on the Chao Phyra River, a Public Audience at the Grand Palace in Bangkok, and a presentation of Orders, including the British Order of the Bath, the Dutch Order of the Netherlands Lion, and the Belgian Order of Leopold. King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) was the last absolute and the first constitutional monarch of the Thailand, who had a turbulent reign until his abdication in 1935, passing away in England in 1941. Queen Rambai Barni returned to Thailand and remained a beloved member of the Royal Family until her death in 1984.
I saw a special exhibition on the Coronation on a visit to the King Prajadhipok Palace Museum (the former home of the King and Queen) in Bangkok, during my visit to Thailand in 2019:
Since the current King was crowned only weeks before my visit, there was also an exhibition on King Prajadhipok’s Coronation! pic.twitter.com/RQKnPtnpP4
