Following a magnificent Ball at the Royal Palace of Brussels, the Belgian Government hosted a Banquet at the Musée du Cinquantenaire in Brussels on this day in 1960, on the eve of the Wedding of King Baudouin of Belgium and Doña Fabiola de Mora y Aragón. King Baudouin (in the Order of Leopold) and Doña Fabiola de Mora y Aragón (wearing her Spanish Wedding Gift Tiara and Aquamarine Earrings) were the guests of honour.

While there were a plethora of Royal Guests and Relatives in attendance, only  King Leopold III (father) and the Princess de Rethy (stepmother), King Olav V (uncle) and Princess Astrid of Norway (cousin, wearing the Gold Bandeau Tiara), King Umberto II (uncle) and Queen Marie-Jose of Italy (aunt, wearing her Sapphire Necklace), Queen Juliana (in the Mellerio Ruby Tiara and Parure) and Prince Bernhard of The Netherlands, Princess Maria Pia of Yugoslavia (cousin, wearing the Pearl and Diamond Ivy Wreath Tiara), Princess Maria Gabriella (cousin, wearing Queen Margherita’s Diamond Wreath Tiara) and Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy  (cousin, wearing the Diamond Flower and Wreath Tiara), Archduke Otto von Habsburg and Princess Napoleon were pictured.

  1. That was quite an array of awesome jewels, wasn’t it! I wonder what became of Queen Fabiola’s Spanish Gift tiara. I’m hoping it’s lurking in the Belgian royal jewel vault waiting for the right moment to bust out! Maybe Queen Mathilde is waiting for her daughter’s marriage or something fabulous like that to wear it. But then again, we may have to wait a loooong time to see it because I don’t think Princess Elisabeth is quite ready to get married yet, not for a long while! 🙂
