Crown Prince Akihito and Crown Princess Michiko in Iran, 1960

The Shah of Iran and Empress Farah (just days after the birth of Crown Prince Reza) host Crown Prince Akihito and Crown Princess Michiko of Japan on this day in 1960, at the start of their Tour of Iran, Ethiopia, India, and Nepal. The highlight of the visit was a State Banquet hosted by the Shah (wearing the Order of the Chrysanthemum) and Empress (in the Empress Farah’s Seven Emerald Tiara, Empress Eugenie’s Emeralds and the Order of the Precious Crown) for the Crown Prince and Crown Princess (wearing the Pearl Sunburst Tiara) at the Golestan Palace in Tehran.

Crown Prince Akihito and Crown Princess Michiko (wearing the Pearl Sunburst Tiara) also hosted a Return Banquet in honour of the Shah and Empress (wearing the Noor-ol-Ain Tiara) in Tehran.
