The Japanese Imperial Family joined Crown Prince Fumihito of Japan as he was officially proclaimed the ‘Crown Prince to the People of Japan’ by Emperor Naruhito in a ‘Rikkoshi-Senmei-no-gi’ Ceremony at the Imperial Palace of Tokyo on November 8th. The Crown Prince, who inherited the Tsubokiri no Gyoken sword, is now set to succeed as the 127th Emperor to the Chrysanthemum Throne, and said:

I am deeply sympathetic to my responsibilities as a crown prince and would like to fulfill my duties”

Following the ‘Rikkoshi no Reimei’ Ceremony , Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko visited the Three Palace Sanctuaries in the grounds of the Imperial Palace of Tokyo to worship and report the ceremony was completed.

In the afternoon, Crown Prince Akishino (in the Order of the Chrysanthemum) and Crown Princess Kiko (wearing the Diamond Scroll Tiara and the Order of the Precious Crown) had their First Audience (Choken-no-Gi) with Emperor Naruhito (wearing the Sash and Star of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers and the Star and Collar of the Order of the Chrysanthemum) and Empress Masako (in the Meiji Scroll Tiara, Two Diamond Riveres, Diamond EarringsChrysanthemum Brooch, and the Order of the Precious Crown) at the Imperial Palace.

  1. This is such a beautiful ceremony, especially the traditional portion with the gorgeous kimonos! Both the Empress and the Crown Princess looked fabulous in their jewels. I especially like the Empress’ Meiji Scroll tiara. I only wished they would have advanced the inheritance reform and declared that women can inherit. They’ll have to do that soon anyway since there is only one heir down the line. They are dangerously close of becoming extinct!
