General Franco and First Lady Carmen Polo Franco welcomed King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand on this day in 1960, at the start of their State Visit to Spain, the highlight of which was the State Banquet hosted by the General and First Lady (wearing her Pearl Tiara) in honour of the King (in the Order of Isabella the Catholic) and Queen (wearing her Thai Tiara, Diamond Fringe Necklace and the Order of Isabella the Catholic). Spain was the last stop on King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit’s monumental State Visits around Europe in the Fall of 1960, which included visits to the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Italy, The Vatican, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands, eventually ending in November with their return to Thailand.
