The Wedding of Prince Arthur of Connaught, son of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia (wearing the Connaught Fringe Tiara), and Princess Alexandra, Duchess of Fife, daughter of Princess Louise of Wales (wearing the Fife Tiara) and the Duke of Fife, in the Chapel Royal, St. James’s Palace in London on this day in 1913, in the presence of many of their extended family, including King George V and Queen Mary, King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine of Denmark, King Haakon VII and Queen Maud of Norway, Queen Alexandra of the United Kingdom (wearing Queen Victoria’s Small Diamond Crown and Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee Chain) and Dowager Empress Marie of Russia, Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf and Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden (sister of the groom, wearing her Khedive of Egypt Tiara and Connaught Necklace) and Prince Henry of Prussia. The couple had one son, Prince Alastair (styled as the Earl of Macduff after 1917), and were the Governor General and Viceregal Consort of South Africa in the 1920s, remaining married until Prince Arthur’s death in 1938.
