Thai State Visit to Sweden, 1960

King Gustaf VI Adolf and Queen Louise of Sweden hosted King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand on their State Visit to Sweden on this day in 1960, the highlight of which was a State Banquet at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, hosted in honour of the Thai King (in the Order of the Seraphim) and Queen (wearing the Order of the Seraphim) by the Swedish King (in the Order of the Royal House of Chakri) and Queen (wearing the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Tiara and the Order of the Royal House of Chakri), Princess Sibylla (in the Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara), Princess Margaretha (wearing the Aquamarine Bandeau), Princess Birgitta, Princess Désirée, and Prince Bertil.

There was also a Gala Performance in honour of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit (in the Floral Bandeau Tiara) in the Drottningholm Palace Theatre, which was also attended by King Gustaf VI Adolf, Queen Louise (wearing the Baden Fringe Tiara), Princess Sibylla (in the Connaught Diamond Tiara), Princess Margaretha (wearing the Four-Button Tiara), Princess Birgitta (in Queen Louise’s Tiara), Princess Désirée (wearing the Aquamarine Bandeau), Prince Bertil, and Prince William. Sweden was a stop on King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit’s monumental State Visits around Europe in the Fall of 1960, which included visits to the United KingdomGermany, Portugal, Switzerland, DenmarkNorway, Italy, the Vatican, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, and Spain, eventually ending in November with their return to Thailand.
