King George VI and Queen Elizabeth were joined by Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, as they hosted Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, King Haakon VII of Norway, and King Peter II and Queen Marie of Yugoslavia, alongside the Presidents of Poland and Czechoslovakia at Buckingham Palace on this day in 1941. The Heads of State had been exiled from their countries during the Nazi Occupation of Europe, and they headed their Governments-in-exile from London for the duration of the War, until most, but not all returned back to their countries.
