Happy Birthday to Princess Alexia of Greece, who turns 55 today! The eldest daughter of King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, granddaughter of four Sovereigns, and niece of Queen Margrethe of Denmark and Queen Sofia of Spain, she has attended a plethora of glittering occasions, often wearing these Diamond Earrings.

Featuring a pear-shaped diamond topped by two leaves, all suspended from a small diamond, the Diamond Earrings, which are similar in design to the Connaught Diamond Tiara which was made for her great-grandmother, have an unknown provenance, but were probably a wedding gift from King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie, as Princess Alexia first wore them on her wedding day in 1999. UPDATE: It has been discovered by Greek Royal Jewels that the earrings, originally belonged to her great-grandmother, Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden.

The Diamond Earrings have been regularly worn by Princess Alexia at a variety of events, including the Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, , Crown Prince Felipe’s Wedding Gala, and the Wedding of Prince Joachim. Their classic design makes them a perfect pair with her Diamond Tiara, and also with a modern diamond necklace owned by Queen Anne Marie. I have no doubt we will continue to see them for years to come.

These are very nice looking earrings. They’re substantial and look very elegant by themselves or with her tiara. They’re made of marquise cut diamonds forming the leaves around a round diamond bud. Very nice indeed!
