Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Ireland

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on an official visit to the Republic of Ireland between March 3rd and March 5th, at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The visit, which includes visits to Dublin, County Meath, County Kildare and Galway, highlights the many strong links between the United Kingdom and Ireland. On the afternoon of March 3rd, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at Dublin Airport, where they were met by representatives from the Irish government and the British Ambassador to Ireland, before being received by President Michael D. Higgins and Sabina Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin in Phoenix Park.

Following, the Duke and Duchess attended a ceremony and laid a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin city centre, before meeting the caretaker Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar and Matthew Barrett at the Government Buildings.

In the evening, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a reception at the Guinness Storehouse’s Gravity Bar hosted by the British Ambassador to Ireland, where they met a broad range of people from the creative arts, sport, business and charity sectors. The Duke gave a speech.

The following day, the Duke and Duchess visited Jigsaw, a mental health charity which provides vital support to young people across a range of one-to-one, community, school and online services, followed by a visit to Savannah House, which provides a safe space to support vulnerable young people and families who are going through challenging times.

The Duke and Duchess then visited the Teagasc Research Farm and learned about their pioneering research to promote sustainable farming across Ireland, and also the Howth Cliff, where they joined representatives from the Marine Institute to talk about their innovating work across Ireland. In the evening, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a reception hosted by Tanaiste Simon Coveney in central Dublin.

On the final day, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined a special event at Tribeton to mark Galway 2020, as it hosts the European Capital of Culture on behalf of Ireland, starting at the traditional Irish Tig Coili pub followed by a special event at Tribeton featuring several Galway 2020 acts.

  1. …where TRHs met Prime Minister Leo Varadkar AND HIS PARTNER MATTHEW BARRETT. Just as every other partner or spouse is identified by name in your posts, so should he be. Please don’t censor like that…it has the whiff of homophobia.

  2. I think the Duchess looked marvelous in the green evening gown as she enjoyed her Guinness! Her earrings are quite outstanding!
